Recently, I was privileged to present training for our employees on the subject of Illumination Tools. Flashlights may not be the most exciting things to most people, but I also got to present AR-101, our class on the AR-style rifle platform, so it all works out.
Somewhere at home, I have this crappy old flashlight my Dad gave me – one of those courregated metal jobs, with the sliding switch and a folding ring at the back, and evidence of some 1960′s technology batteries. You can probably pick your own benchmark for how far technology has advanced – medical science, the International Space Station, plasma televisions. For me, in second place, right behind the moon landing in 1969, is this flashlight:
Almost everone said the same thing when firing this flashlight up: “Holy ****”. I’ll give you a hint, the first asterisk represents an “s”. This light is 135mm long, and the bezel is 60mm in diameter, so it is almost half as wide as it is tall, much like my date for junior prom was. My prom date was cheaper to feed (the Tiny Monster uses eight CR123 cells) but between the two, the Tiny Monster is much brighter.…
We’ve just about finished putting out all of our SHOT Show Videos through our new blog GearExpert.com. I’ve talked a bit about some of the cool gear from EOTech and ATN, but there is a TON more to see, such as:
I thought I’d give you guys a taste of our full coverage from SHOT Show 2012. One of our video interviews is with ATN. Our Trevor Bending talks with ATN’s Steve Lemenov about the new night vision gear and thermal imaging that ATN will be bringing to you this year!
Probably my favorite part of the video is when Steve shows Trevor the new ATN ThOR Thermal Imaging Rifle Scope that’ll be available soon. We did just recently get in the ATN ThOR320 Digital Thermal Imager Scope, which is not only incredibly tough, but also gives you a great image. It’s an amazing piece of technology.
We’re doing our full coverage of SHOT Show 2012 over on GearExpert.com, and the videos are really starting to roll out now. We saw a TON of awesome new products this year from our favorite brands like Trijicon, Bushnell, Burris and Mission First Tactical.
In fact, we JUST posted a new video covering the cool new gear by Mission First Tactical. They have some great new gun grips, flashlight grips, quad rails and more. They really impressed us this year. Cool stuff.
But for me, the coolest thing about this year’s SHOT Show was the emphasis on zombies. There was so much zombie gear that next year they should change the name to ZHOT Show.
Okay, probably not, but it was a really undead-focused show this year. Leupold had a cool zombie riflescope, there was some neat zombie ammo, and there was an AR15 with a chainsaw bayonet attached specifically for zombie slaying!
But there was an extra special zombie gun sight this year, and it comes to us from EOTech. Let’s be clear: EOTech is awesome. Actually, REALLY awesome. They make some of the best red dot sights in the world, which …
