Be Prepared...You never expect an injury to happen. Even in hazardous conditions or while engaging in risky activities, injuries always seems to occur when you didn't see them coming. Since no one is immune to the occasional accident, it's best to be prepared ahead of time, whether you're a craftsman, a soldier, or a parent. The Peltor First Aid Kit is one of the better first aid kits available. It's ready to use and contains 154 pieces of supplies to aid in the medical attention of common household and outdoor injuries. First aid supplies include cold
packs, antiseptics, bandages, gauze, medical tape, antibiotic ointments, and more. A fold-away handle also makes for convenient transportation in your car, boat, or motorcycle. With the Peltor First Aid Kit, you'll be ready for life's inevitable bumps and bruises-- at least the physical ones! Sorry, but it can't repair your neighbor's broken window thanks to junior's baseball or the permanent marker on your living room wall.

First Aid Tips to Remember for Minor Burns:
First degree and small second degree burns that are 3 inches in diameter or less qualify as minor burns (with the exception being small second degree burns that occur on the hands, feet, face, groin, or over a major joint).
First degree and small second degree burns that are 3 inches in diameter or less qualify as minor burns (with the exception being small second degree burns that occur on the hands, feet, face, groin, or over a major joint).
- Cool the burn by immersing it or holding it under cold running water for at least 5 minutes.
Cover the burn with a clean, sterile gauze bandage. A loosely wrapped bandage keeps pressure off the burned skin and also keeps out air, reduces pain, and protects blisters.
Take or Administer an OTC Pain Reliever. Over-the-counter pain relievers include aspirin (Bayer), acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil), or naproxen sodium (Aleve). Do not use acetaminophen if you have severe kidney or liver disease, and do not give aspirin to children or teenagers.
Watch for signs of infection. If infection occurs, seek medical attention. Otherwise, the burn should heal with time without the need for further treatment.
For minor burns, DO NOT:
- Do NOT apply ice to the burn, as this could cause frostbite.
- Do NOT apply ointments or butter, as this could prevent the burned skin from healing properly.
- Do NOT break blisters. Blisters are nature's band-aid. Open blisters are vulnerable to infection.

Sturdy Yet Flexible: The Galco Dual Position Phoenix Holster
Good things come from Chicago. OpticsPlanet-- for one, some of the world's best pizza and hot dogs, Buddy Guy, and another good thing to start out in Chicago was Galco Gunleather! It began in 1969 as a small family business created by Richard N. Gallagher (though the company was then known as The Original Jackass Leather Company). Years went by and the name and location changed, but many innovative, quality designs and a good deal of Miami Vice-inspired fame later, and Galco is still producing unrivalled holsters, rigs, and more (albeit in Phoenix now). Don't get me wrong! Phoenix is a great city too, and I imagine it is responsible for the name of one of Galco's particularly excellent holsters. I'm talking about a favorite holster of my buddy Steve (a true connoisseur); the Galco Dual Position Phoenix. The Dual Position Phoenix is an attractive, superb sportsman's holster that can be used either strong side or crossdraw, with two tension screw adjustments for a custom fit to your handgun. The Galco Gunleather Dual Position Phoenix is made for semiautomatic pistols and double-action revolvers and fits belts up to 1 3/4". In the tradition of superior, quality-made, handcrafted Galco holsters, the Dual Position Phoenix is made from premium Galco tan saddle leather lined with silicone suede, and is available in right and left hand designs. The Dual Position Phoenix can be easily readjusted to the owner's preference, and offers exceptional comfort with stitched sight rails to protect the leather and sights, as well as a reinforced thumb break with covered snap for security in the brush and the essential swift draw. Available options for the Dual Position Phoenix are several Smith & Wesson and Colt molds, and the Ruger P89 mold.

Smart hearing protection without the ashy mess!
True story: my friend was once seated next to a man on a flight who claimed that cigarette butts make great earplugs that are just as effective as the real deal and--even better--free (if you smoke). Thankfully it was a relatively short flight, though when my friend relayed this story to me, it sounded like he probably would have tested out this guy's theory if he'd had a couple of Marlboros, just to make it through the remainder of the flight.Fortunately, much more practical, effective, and sanitary means of hearing protection are readily available and highly affordable. Peltor makes some nifty, double-ended earplugs designed for multiple circumstances-- and they're nicotine-free and non-carcinogenic! Peltor Indoor/Outdoor Range Hearing Protection ear plugs were designed by the US Army and NATO for indoor and outdoor use with two different types of protection: the olive-colored end provides a constant Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 22 decibels (dB), especially suited to high noise levels and reverberations such as those at an indoor range. The yellow-colored end provides variable level protection for impulse noises without blocking normal communications or range commands. This gives the Peltor Indoor/Outdoor earplugs a versatile NRR of 0-22 dB. Priced to go and devoid of tobacco tax, Peltor earplugs are ideal for any range as well as a host of other places and activities, such as mowing the lawn, using high-noise power tools or machinery, or sitting next to odd, talkative passengers on airplanes. Then again, a double scotch helps with that one, too.
