Smart hearing protection without the ashy mess!
True story: my friend was once seated next to a man on a flight who claimed that cigarette butts make great earplugs that are just as effective as the real deal and--even better--free (if you smoke). Thankfully it was a relatively short flight, though when my friend relayed this story to me, it sounded like he probably would have tested out this guy's theory if he'd had a couple of Marlboros, just to make it through the remainder of the flight.Fortunately, much more practical, effective, and sanitary means of hearing protection are readily available and highly affordable. Peltor makes some nifty, double-ended earplugs designed for multiple circumstances-- and they're nicotine-free and non-carcinogenic! Peltor Indoor/Outdoor Range Hearing Protection ear plugs were designed by the US Army and NATO for indoor and outdoor use with two different types of protection: the olive-colored end provides a constant Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 22 decibels (dB), especially suited to high noise levels and reverberations such as those at an indoor range. The yellow-colored end provides variable level protection for impulse noises without blocking normal communications or range commands. This gives the Peltor Indoor/Outdoor earplugs a versatile NRR of 0-22 dB. Priced to go and devoid of tobacco tax, Peltor earplugs are ideal for any range as well as a host of other places and activities, such as mowing the lawn, using high-noise power tools or machinery, or sitting next to odd, talkative passengers on airplanes. Then again, a double scotch helps with that one, too.
