Thermal Imaging equipment for the fire department

The Tiogue Fire District, RI will receive $11,400 through the Department of Homeland Security federal funding. These funds were awarded to ensure that the first responders and life savers have all the necessary equipment they need.

These funds will help firefighters continue their work in helping members of the Coventry community. It is imperative that emergency responders have the most up-to-date gear and equipment they need to continue protecting and assisting RI citizens.

Fire Chief said that the department would use the money to purchase a thermal imaging equipment. A thermal imaging camera is definitely important for them to have. It senses heat and distinguishes between temperatures, so, if a firefighter is in a smoke-filled room, the camera will show the outline of someone's body if they are in the room. Basically, it will allow the firefighters to see through the smoke and help get people out of the building.
