GLONASS - Russian GPS

On the 25-th of December Proton-K was launched successfully with the GLONASS. GLONASS is the Global Navigation Satellite System – the Russian counterpart to the USA's GPS. It is a radio satellite navigation system. The period of duration has been increased to 7 years and later to 12 years. This Russian GPS or 'First Aid on the road' has been designed in the beginning to operat for the government of Russia. Every year Russia is planning to increase the quantity of satellites to 24 to cover more space.
