Military Advanced Tactical Laser
Boeing Company proceeded to the final experimental stage testing the Military Advanced Tactial Laser (short for ATL), which is installed on the board of an airplane. Though earlier we were talking about destroying the ballistic missiles when taking off, but now it's said that this setting is intended for destroying targets on the ground including urban area at night with the help of night vision. The project of air stationing of this military laser is extremely interesting from the technical point of view.
Originally the project was called Airborne Laser (ABL). And the idea was to install the extra-high-power laser on the Boeing 747, which will go round along the hostile boundaries during war crisis. When the ballistic missile starts up the airplane will locate it and from the hunderds of miles will struck the missile with laser. So, from the technical point of view this machine, the prototype of which of is being tested for quite a long period of time, can be surely called the real wonder of engineering!
